| The Pumphouse Theatre and Lake Pupuke |

Lake Pupuke is located in the centre of the city in Takapuna. This deep freshwater lake was originally the main source of water supply for the North Shore area. The restoration of the lake's historic pumphouse began in 1977 and the building is now a centre for the performing and visual arts in the city. The Pumphouse Theatre and Art Gallery show-pieces the works of local artists and also has a popular cafe, open seven days from 10am-4pm. While no powered vessels are allowed on the lake, it is a popular venue for rowing, sailing and canoeing. Call in to the cafe for a relaxing atmosphere and wonderful view over the lake.
